Center City East: Creating Center City’s Next Retail District
Center City East connects City Hall and Midtown Village to Independence Mall and the city’s major tourist attractions. In the next few years several large-scale, mixed-use developments will invest more than $815 million and add more than 1 million square feet of new retail, creating Center City’s next shopping district.
Strong retail and housing demand is driving development east of Broad Street, where there is room for large-scale projects. While Center City’s prime retail district is on the west side along Rittenhouse Square, both local boutiques seeking lower rents and national tenants desiring larger spaces are eager to locate here.
Offerings will include some of Center City's first big box retailers, along with design and independent boutiques. New entrants to the market include Century 21, Target, Mom’s Organic Market, Design Within Reach, P.J. Clarke’s and the relocation of the Marketplace Design Center, as well as unique boutiques found only in Center City including Cella Luxuria, Lapstone & Hammer, and Rikumo.
